Sodexho Monopoly Troubling Student Leaders
Today I sat down with officers of the Federalist Society, and we discussed some of the events that they have hosted this semester, as well as events they will host in the future.
They expressed to me trouble with Sodexho, the dining service provider at the University, holding a monopoly on events that are hosted at the University. They also have a unique circumstance at their law school, as it is located away from the main campus, so they have to pay a $25 transportation fee for food and drinks!
It is a shame that these universities allow these private food industries to take away the liberties of the students to provide their own food for events. It takes away the ability of the student to shop for lower priced food and drinks. For example, Mitch Rouse, a Federalist Society member, said that bottled waters that used to cost them $0.65/bottle now costs them $2.00/bottle because they are forced to go through Sodexho!
These school policies are ridiculous. Students should be allowed to provide their own food and drinks without having to jump through the hoops of the university. Whatever happened to the ability to order some pizzas and bring a few two-liters to a group meeting? Now you have to pay outrageous prices for food services, and can't even provide your own drinks!
Students should be very concerned with these policies, no matter what school you're at. Petition your SGA and let your voice be heard against these outrageous policies that are restricting the liberties of the students!
